February 2002 was my first month of recruitment. Almost 19 years on and we’re finally here.
There have been some enormous challenges along the way. My first management role was nothing short of a disaster, but I learned so much from it. That has been the one constant in my career; being able to remove the emotion from every experience. To focus instead on what I can learn from the experience. It is a skill we don’t focus enough on.
I’m not perfect, I’ve made mistakes, some of them in how I ran the recruitment process, others in how I managed my teams or business. No matter how big the error was, I never forgot my mentor’s advice to me in my early days “don’t be afraid to make mistakes, just make sure you don’t make the same mistake twice.” I would like to believe my career path to now is precisely that. I have tried to share that same belief with my teams over the years.
It has been a crazy journey and one I see myself extremely fortunate to have had. I have met and worked with some fantastic people along the way. Even the ones who were not so enjoyable still offered me something to take away from my experience.
It all leads to this. ARC Talent is an exciting new specialist recruitment agency focusing on providing a quality of service to companies and candidates that will be a breath of fresh air to the industry.
How will we do this?
With Resilience, and no it’s not a play on words with my surname, that is just a fortunate coincidence. The recruitment industry can test even the most influential personalities. Combine that with a challenging market, and you will see many give up or move to a softer /more emerging market. But that’s not me. Yes, this market has its challenges and yes, I think us recruiters should be given more credit for the work we do, I still believe there is a massive opportunity in this market.
Transparency; for too long too many recruiters were happy to commit the biggest sin in the game which is over-promising and under-delivering. You won’t get that here. You will know who you’re dealing with and what you’re getting from your recruitment partner.
And Integrity. For the life of me, I can’t understand how this escapes many people, and to be honest, it all starts with how you treat your employees. Anyone can talk their way into a sale or client, but it’s your employees who see your true colours. How you acknowledge, develop and reward them shows more integrity than anything else.
Companies now more than ever are looking for the very best talent, and they’re also looking for a more rounded service from their recruitment partners. Notice I used the word partner again? It’s what ARC Talent aims to be. We’re looking for companies and candidates who truly value what we bring to the table and allow us to be a valued member in the recruitment process. It is this way and this way alone that can assure the ultimate success in the process.
We have just launched and have no aspirations to become the biggest (not yet anyway), but our goal is simple. Put your trust in ARC, and we will leave no stone unturned to deliver the highest quality service and result.
